Static Lateral Load Test (LLT)
Test reference Standard: ASTM D3966_D3966M-22 - Standard Test Methods for Deep Foundation Elements Under Static Lateral Load

ABOUT THE TEST
The Static Lateral Load Test is a recognized method for evaluating the lateral performance of deep foundation elements such as piles, drilled shafts, and barrettes. Conducted in accordance with ASTM D3966/D3966M Standard Test Methods for Deep Foundations Under Static Lateral Load, the test measures the deflection of a foundation element when subjected to controlled lateral forces.
This procedure provides critical data on lateral capacity, stiffness, and serviceability, enabling engineers to assess how foundations will perform under real-world conditions such as wind, seismic activity, or unbalanced structural loads. The test setup typically involves a reaction system (kentledge or reaction piles), instrumentation to measure pile movement and stiffness, and incremental application of lateral loads until service or ultimate criteria are reached.

QUALITY ASSURANCE
At Geolutions, quality assurance is central to every lateral load test we deliver. As a SAC-SINGLAS accredited organization under the ISO/IEC 17020 Instrumentation and Monitoring Scheme, our processes meet stringent international standards, ensuring that inclinometer monitoring for pile lateral tilt and displacement measurements are precise, traceable, and audit-ready.
Beyond accredited instrumentation, our in-house technical team provides full support in the design and calculation of test beam setups, whether using kentledge systems or reaction pile methods. Each solution is tailored to the specific site conditions and resource constraints of our clients, guaranteeing both technical validity and practical feasibility.
This combination of accredited monitoring, advanced instrumentation, and customized engineering design ensures that every lateral load test conducted by Geolutions is accurate, reliable, and aligned with the highest standards of quality and accountability.
